About Lower Zambezi National Park: Situated on the banks of the Zambezi River in the south-eastern part of Zambia, opposite Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park, the Lower Zambezi National Park occupies 4092 sq. km, with 120 km of river frontage. Its distinguishing features are the rugged escarpment to the north, the river itself, and its numerous islands, lagoons and floodplains which attract most of the Zambian wildlife. There are approximately 50 mammal species and 400 bird species, which thrive in the Park, as well as a wide variety of spectacular trees, grasses and flowers. This area is still unspoiled as it is new to tourism and is afforded a high level of protection from the Zambian Government and the local tour operators. It was only declared a National Park in 1983, and the Cumings Family, who own and operate Chiawa Camp, brought the first tourists to the Park in 1990, creating one of the finest African safari experiences, opening access and all the game viewing loops enjoyed within the Park today. Only licensed operators may conduct safaris in the area, and only a few lodges situated within the Park may conduct river and canoeing trips there on a daily basis, with strict regulations governing the number of boats on the water. Visitors to the Park are thus assured of seeing very little human activity. This has led to the Lower Zambezi National Park providing one of Africa's finest wilderness experiences. The legendary Zambezi River is, in itself, a spectacle and is the namesake of this pristine wilderness. Along its 2700 km course, the Zambezi fertilises the Barotse floodplains, plunges over the Victoria Falls and replenishes the massive Lake Kariba before reaching the Lower Zambezi. Here, a myriad of islands has formed, creating a home and feeding ground for an incredible amount of diverse Zambian wildlife. Together this creates one of the most diverse and interesting eco-systems on the planet, providing the opportunity to explore these habitats in an unmatched variety of safari activities.

Day 1 to 4: Kanyemba Lodge – Lower Zambezi National Park

Carved out of the African bush, Kanyemba is a wonderful getaway in the Lower Zambezi, only two and a half hours from the capital city of Lusaka. Kanyemba's great atmosphere and vibe, the staff, the surrounding nature, expert guiding, and breathtaking scenery, along with our renowned cuisine will make your guests’ experience of Zambia's hospitality one to remember! Kanyemba Lodge strives to provide a haven in which to enjoy the beauty and activities on offer in the Lower Zambezi. Catering for a maximum of 20 guests, the lodge comprises 6 stone and thatch “rondavel” chalets, each with their own large private deck overlooking the Zambezi River, full ensuite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. Nestled on the banks of the Zambezi, Kanyemba Lodge is built of natural materials, and the chalets blend in perfectly with the surroundings, providing extreme comfort in the warmer months and a very high level of privacy.

In addition, we offer a Family Unit which includes three individual suites – each with their own private entrance and en-suite bathroom but sharing a large deck area. Stunning en-suite bathrooms include state-of-the-art fittings and bright mirror lighting, along with handcrafted, Zambian made amenities. Chalets also include walk-in wardrobes with shelving, hanging rails, digital safe, and plenty of room for storage. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in each room. All chalets have 220V electricity (mains with full generator backup), air conditioning, ceiling fans, and canopy mosquito netting. Overlooking the river, the restaurant and bar allow spacious & relaxed dining. Meanwhile upstairs, guests can relax and enjoy the extensive library and lounge with a view across the river – the perfect

space to while away the afternoon! Each evening guests are treated to Kanyemba Lodge’s famous cuisine under the branches of a giant wild Mango Tree. With a distinctly Italian influence, our team of chefs will wow your palate at the same time as the “Kanyemba Chorus” of hyena, frogs, and of course, the odd lion, will wow your mind. We also have a swimming pool beautifully situated on the banks of the river, with built-in benches that allow a retreat from the hotter hours of the day - whilst sipping a G&T and watching the elephants on the opposite bank.

Brief notes about South Luangwa National Park

For most visitors, South Luangwa National Park is by far the most practical park to visit in the valley. This is Zambia’s premier wildlife park, with superb wildlife and many excellent camps. This is where the now famous walking safaris started from over 60 years ago and this unique African destination retains some of the finest world-class safari guides.

There are many contenders for the title of Africa's best game park. The Serengeti, Amboseli, Ngorongoro Crater, Etosha, Kruger, Moremi and Mana Pools would certainly be high on the list. South Luangwa has a better claim than most. Some of these other areas will match its phenomenally high game densities. Many others – the lesser known of Africa's parks – will have equally few visitors. One or two also allow night drives, which open up a different, nocturnal world to view, allowing leopards to be commonly seen and even watched whilst hunting.

However, few have South Luangwa's high quality of guiding together with its remarkable wildlife spectacles, day and night, in the isolation of a true wilderness. These elements, perhaps, are how the contenders ought to be judged, and on these the South Luangwa Park comes out around the top of the list.

Day 4 to 7: Zikomo Safari Camp – South Luangwa National Park (Nsefu Sector)

Zikomo Safari is across the river from South Luangwa National Park. It is set amidst a valley filled with diverse African wildlife. This peaceful bush lodge and campsite is the perfect setting for your African Photo Safari. Whether you choose a game drive, an exciting bush walk, a visit to the local village, a visit to the hot springs, or time out simply relaxing in a hammock, your visit will amaze you.

Only a forty-five (45) minute drive from Mfuwe International Airport, in an area away from other safari lodges, Zikomo Safari is spread under a canopy of ancient shade trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. It is in the Nsefu sector. This sector is one of the least crowded and richest in wildlife areas in the world.

Our nine handcrafted chalets are well furnished with en-suite bathrooms and private decks from which to view the river and wildlife. There are electric fans, mosquito nets, sinks, showers and toilets in each. Seven chalets have a double and a single bed. Two family size chalets offer two rooms, a double bed and two single beds.
