Brief notes about South Luangwa National Park For most visitors, South Luangwa National Park is by far the most practical park to visit in the valley. This is Zambia’s premier wildlife park, with superb wildlife and many excellent camps. This is where the now famous walking safaris started from over 60 years ago and this unique African destination retains some of the finest world-class safari guides. There are many contenders for the title of Africa's best game park. The Serengeti, Amboseli, Ngorongoro Crater, Etosha, Kruger, Moremi and Mana Pools would certainly be high on the list. South Luangwa has a better claim than most. Some of these other areas will match its phenomenally high game densities. Many others – the lesser known of Africa's parks – will have equally few visitors. One or two also allow night drives, which open up a different, nocturnal world to view, allowing leopards to be commonly seen. However, few have South Luangwa's high quality of guiding together with its remarkable wildlife spectacles, day and night, in the isolation of a true wilderness. These elements, perhaps, are how the contenders ought to be judged, and on these the South Luangwa Park comes out around the top of the list. Min: 2 Pax Age Restrictions:  12 Years and above are allowed for walking safari otherwise all ages are welcome

Day 1 to 5 – Wildlife Safari Camp, South Luangwa National Park

Wildlife Safari Camp is a safari-camp on the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia. This camp provides guests with an affordable front-row seat to one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa, South Luangwa National Park. Since 1992 Wildlife Camp has been one of the most famous and popular camps in the Luangwa Valley, providing our guests with spectacular and authentic experiences in the African bush.

Wildlife Safari Camp has 9 en-suite chalets, five of which are situated in a quiet corner of the camp, overlooking a lagoon area and surrounded by huge shady trees while the other four are located in the centre of our camp, conveniently close to our reception area, main bar and restaurant. These four chalets each offer unique views over the Luangwa River. THE LODGE & FACILITIES

The main lodge is a spacious thatched semi-circle of sophisticated comfort. It's an open-plan area that houses the dining area, indoor braai/BBQ, lounge and bar. With a traditional roof, stonewalls and gnarled wooden colonnades, the lodge has been designed to fit in with the natural environment.

In the dining area, we serve delicious international and traditional local meals prepared by our chef. From the bar, you can order a selection of drinks for all occasions and unwind in our cosy lounge or Zambia shaped swimming pool.

The lodge is surrounded by the African bush, set on a small piece of raised ground between the Luangwa river and a lagoon you get a sense of the wild while just a short drive from Mfuwe. Wildlife often passes through the camp at night to graze while during the day elephant, monkeys, mongoose, baboons and giraffes can visit.

For moments of leisure, we use the river bank as much as we can: - this is our 24hour wide-screen experience! There's a constant interest as animals come to the water's edge on the opposite bank to drink or even to bathe in the river. We have comfortable chairs on the bank for you so you can relax and take it all in.

The love of the arts is at the heart of the Lodge and we aim over time to develop this as a place where creative people can come all year round to paint and photograph wildlife.

In the evening you can sit around our open fire enjoying a pre-dinner drink whilst comparing wildlife encounters, watching the sunset and finally seeing the stars come to life.

Facilities include:

  • Bar
  • Restaurant
  • Swimming Pool
  • Indoor BBQ
  • Lounge
  • Open Air Fire Pit

ACCOMMODATION

Simple but elegant accommodation is offered in our nine comfortable en-suite chalets that are spread out along the riverbank with fabulous views of the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park beyond. Or perhaps you might prefer a more basic accommodation in one of our dome tents.

The chalets are equipped with double or twin beds with high-quality mattresses and bedding (draped with mosquito nets). There is also enough space for a 3rd bed if required and we have a cot for infants. We feel our chalets have everything you need to make your safari a fantastic one.

We have paid special attention to the beds and linen, but you will also appreciate the private bathroom (with a lovely hot walk-in shower), the desk, the tea & coffee making facilities, the cupboard and hanging space, the power points (both Euro and UK, 230 volt) and the fan as well as the verandah and the huge windows with views that might mean you're on 24-hour safari if you choose not to drop your blinds!

Lamps light the camp paths at night and lead you to the main lodge which is a spacious thatched area that houses the dining room, indoor braai/BBQ, lounge and bar. With a traditional roof, stonewalls and gnarled wooden colonnade, the lodge has been designed to fit in with the natural environment.
